Invisalign is often misunderstood as a product that you can simply “purchase” from dentists or orthodontists that will straighten your teeth. The fact is Invisalign is an appliance used for comprehensive orthodontic care, using clear plastic removable aligners, instead of braces. The aligners are invisible and because they are removable, patients can eat and drink what they like and it is easy to floss and brush. As with braces, patient cooperation with wearing the aligners is critical to obtaining an excellent result. The aligners are designed to work according to the detailed prescription/instructions given to Invisalign by Dr. Cain. This involves using the same principles as when planning treatment with fixed appliances (braces). So, while it may be possible to find general dentists offering Invisalign treatment, it should be kept in mind that an orthodontist has completed a lengthy and extensive residency training program.
